Small Unregulated Power Supply Project

Here's a simple power supply that can be used in many applications.
It is not regulated , so keep that in mind for voltage sensitive devices , and of course you will need to understand how to select the correct amperage and voltage for the AC transformer.

If this is no problem and your just after the basic design and all of the PCB artwork already done for you , well , your in the rite place. !

This is the schematic for this project.
Provision is made for earthing , but you again will need to work out if this is required for your application.
Not shown in the schematic but is present on the board is a spot for a switch to be connected on the low voltage side after the rectifier.
This can be made a link if not required and you can switch the AC if required before you get to the board.

I used 2 electrolytic capacitors for smoothing , but one large one might do the job just as well.
With a loss of the power on LED indicator quite a large capacitor could be fitted , or perhaps some other filtering method used.

Quite hefty tracks should be suitable for quite high output currents.

I made this board at home  -  Check out the index page for my board making article.

The completed supply.

Isn't it nice to see actual working units of the projects found on the net instead of just a schematic .... ?

This way you KNOW it works.:-)
